Bharti Airtel to acquire the Indian leg of GBI’s India-Middle East-Europe submarine cable system

Bharti Airtel and Gulf Bridge International (GBI) have entered into a strategic agreement to scale up the capacity on GBI’s India-Middle East-Europe submarine cable system.

Under the agreement, Bharti Airtel will acquire the ownership of the India leg of GBI’s India-Middle East-Europe submarine cable. Further, the Indian operator will also pick up a significant capacity on Middle East-Europe leg of GBI’s cable system.

Both the companies have also agreed to formulate joint go to market strategies and leverage their respective global networks to serve customers worldwide.

According to Bharti Airtel, the partnership will offer synergies for Airtel and GBI to build on each other’s strengths in their respective markets. The large capacity is being added to meet the growing data, content demand in markets like India as well as serve the connectivity needs of global carriers and enterprise customers

Bharti Airtel has large capacities on multiple international submarine cable systems and offers the maximum number of routes between India and Europe.
