DoT issues strategic plan for state-owned telecom players and organisations

February 22, 2018

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has formulated a strategic plan for public sector units and organisations in the telecom sector to work in collaboration for the promotion of greater operational synergy among them, including efficient utilisation of human resources as well as land and buildings.

As per the plan, the DoT has identified specific areas including manpower, settlement of legal issues and utilisation of vacant space in order to facilitate this collaboration. The DoT has emphasised on the critical importance of achieving substantial and tangible progress in the next six months. Further, a review mechanism at the DoT will keep the plans on track.

The strategic plan includes effective utilisation of human resources including deriving synergies in training of employees as well as creation of a common platform for web based online training by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). Apart from these, operational utilisation of vacant space, land and buildings within telecom PSUs and organisations within DoT along with promotion of Make in India has been outlined.

According to the plan, telecom PSUs will refrain from going to court against one another and first approach the DoT for dispute resolution. The strategic roadmap will also cover other areas like standards and certification, and preparing to tap opportunities in areas like 5G and internet of things (IoT).
