RJIL gets RoW permission from Kerala government to lay around 2,000 km of OFC

February 08, 2018

Reliance Jio infocomm Limited has been granted a fresh right of way (RoW) permission to lay 1,956.26 km of optical fibre cable (OFC) by the state government of Kerala. However, this is subject to the condition that RJIL meets the commitments given with RoWs granted earlier. Earlier in 2013, RJIL was granted RoW permission for laying 1,428.42 km of OFC.

The fresh RoW permission has been granted on the revised RoW guidelines issued by the government in 2016. According to the new guidelines, RJIL will be liable to make a one-time payment Rs 75,000 per km to the government, amounting to a total of around Rs 150 million and also submit a bank guarantee of Rs 50 per metre, totalling around Rs 100 million.

Among the other conditions are free connectivity of 100 mbps at the three network operating centres and 50 mbps at all district points of presence and 10 mbps in taluka head quarters. However, RJIL has not met these commitments yet. Therefore, the fresh RoW has been granted provided that these commitments are first fulfilled.
