MHA to set up a body to help states curb cyber crime

January 18, 2018

The Ministry of Home Affairs is planning to establish the India Cyber Science Coordination Centre (ICSCC) in order to advise states on cyber security and help them in creating a policy infrastructure for the same.

Through this, the MHA aims to equip states and other stakeholders to monitor and tackle the growing instances of cyber crime.

According to the MHA, once the initial blueprint is formalised, the MHA will be authorised to intercept phone calls and give security clearances in civil aviation and other sectors. Further, an online national-level platform will be created with the help of National Informatics Centre to register complaints. These complaints will be allotted to officials for investigation in the jurisdiction where the offence took place.

Vertical heads have been recommended under a joint secretary for timely formation of ICSCC in the newly created Cyber and Information Security Division in the MHA.
