SDN/NFV market to grow at CAGR of 45 per cent over next three years, says SNS Research

January 05, 2018

According to report by SNS Research, the software defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) markets will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 45 per cent over the next three years. Further, investment in the SDN/NFV market is expected to reach $22 billion in 2020.

As per the report, SDN and network virtualisation investments accounted for $12 billion in 2017 in this segment. Software oriented networking is continuing to grow in the enterprise and data centre segments.

As per the report, SDN/NFV brings a number of benefits to the telecom service provider community as well. These technologies help address the capacity demand of mobile traffic and also reduce the capex and opex requirements of service providers by diminishing reliance on expensive hardware platforms.

SNS Research noted that with the emergence of initiatives such as the Linux Foundation's Open Network Automation Platform, ETSI's Open-Source MANO and SK Telecom's T-MANO, commercialised solutions that can perform integrated management and orchestration from multiple vendors are being seen. Several service providers, both mobile and fixed-line, have begun investing in SDN/NFV.
