Gujarat government inks MoU for implementation of BharatNet Phase II

January 03, 2018

The Gujarat government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the central government and Bharat Broadband Network Limited for the implementation of the second phase of the BharatNet project.

The MoU has been signed after the Telecom Commission recently approved the Gujarat government’s project report for the implementation of BharatNet Phase II. As per the MoU, the work is estimated to be completed by March 2019.

Under the second phase of the BharatNet, approximately 7,295 gram panchayats (GP) in Gujarat would be provided with high speed broadband connectivity at a total cost of Rs 16.70 billion, which will be funded entirely by the central government. Further, around 37,000 kms of optical fibre cable will be laid to provide high speed broadband connectivity to these GPs.
