Chattisgarh government to choose implementation partner for its telecom connectivity programme

December 18, 2017

The Chattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society (CHiPS) will soon choose a partner for the implementation of the Sanchar Kranti Yojna (CG-SKY). With the CG-SKY, the state government plans to improve telecom connectivity in the state by incentivising telecom operators to install cell-sites across the state.

To this end, in order to make the installation of cell-sites commercially viable, the state government will be distributing approximately five million smartphones across the state.

The government is aiming to extend mobile coverage to all villages with a population of more than 1,000 in the state as well as strengthen connectivity in villages which are already connected. Approximately, 14,000 villages have been identified under the scheme. Under the scheme, one smartphone each will be distributed to every eligible household and college student.

The state government plans to begin distribution of smartphones by April 2018 and complete it by March 2019. The distribution has been planned in two stages in order to ensure effective implementation. The first stage will oversee the distribution of approximately 4.8 million smartphones by August 2018 while the distribution of the remaining smartphones will be completed in the second stage by March 2019.
