Bharti Airtel looking to buy RCOM’s spectrum assets and network equipment

November 27, 2017

Bharti Airtel has expressed interest in buying select spectrum assets and equipment of Reliance Communications (RCOM).

Airtel is reportedly mulling to buy RCOM’s spectrum in the 850 MHz band that is considered highly efficient for 4G services. The operator, however, is unlikely to bid aggressively for the airwaves as there is no longer any spectrum shortage in the country.

At present, RCOM’s lenders are in the process of selling its assets to recover part of the Rs 450 billion that the operator owes them. The lenders are learnt to have appointed SBI Caps, the investment banking arm of RCOM’s top lender State Bank of India (SBI) to seek interests for the operator’s assets. The lenders have received expression of interest (EoI) for the same from several telecom companies. The interested parties can submit non-binding offers by December 13, 2017, after which the due diligence process will be initiated based on the bid value. The sale will be done in a piece meal manner depending on the value it generates.
