Nokia begins manufacturing 5G ready base stations at its Chennai factory

Tuesday, 14 November 2017

Nokia has begun manufacturing 5G- ready multiband base station in India at its Chennai facility. The company expects to start shipping the product to some global customers soon.

The Chennai factory, established in 2008, is Nokia’s biggest production unit and serves both domestic and global markets. Nearly half of all radio base stations produced at the Chennai factory are exported to global markets. The factory has doubled production in 2 years to 4 million base stations in 2017.

Nokia’s focus now is to not only further leverage the ecosystem in the chain, but also transform the supply chain. According to the company, supply chain 4.0 is much more than an ecosystem environment. With the digital environment moving so fast, it is not just about automation but about fully operating in a smart Internet of Things (IoT) environment.
