Brookfield calls off RCOM tower deal after merger with Aircel falls through

November 06, 2017

Brookfield Infrastructure has called off its deal with Reliance Communications (RCOM) worth $ 200 million since the deal was dependant on RCOM’s merger with Aircel which was called off last month.

According to Brookfield, the merger will not proceed and therefore our transaction as previously announced does not stand. However, it will continue to monitor the evolving situation to determine if revised terms can be agreed upon.

RCOM which is undergoing a debt restructuring plan had expected its debt of Rs 450 billion to get slashed by 60 per cent after its merger with Aircel and Brookfield deal. But with the Aircel deal falling through, RCOM now plans to function as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that will offer 4G services once it sheds 2G and 3G voice business.
