Over 280 operator BTS found non-compliant with the government’s EMF norms

According to an audit conducted by Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cells of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), a total of 284 base transceiver stations (BTSs) installed by telecom operators were found exceeding the prescribed EMF radiation norms as of June 20, 2017. Out of these, 69 belonged to Bharti Airtel and its subsidiaries, 62 to Vodafone, 34 to Tata Teleservices Limited and its subsidiaries, 32 to Reliance Communications, 22 to Idea Cellular, 20 to Aircel and 11 to Loop Mobile, which has shut-down its operations in the country.

Meanwhile, ten BTSs each of state-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, eight of Telenor, three of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, two of Videocon Telecom and one of Sistema Shyam Teleservices Limited have been found non-compliant with the EMF radiation norms as of June 2017.
