India’s subscriber base crosses the 1.2 billion mark in May 2017, as per TRAI data

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the telecom subscription data for May 2017. As per the data, the total number of subscribers in India increased from 1,198.89 million during April 2017 to 1,204.98 million during May 2017, thereby witnessing a monthly growth rate of 0.51 per cent. Further, the overall tele-density increased from 93.23 per cent to 93.61 during the same period.

Moreover, the urban subscription rate increased from 695.99 million during April 2017 to 697.06 million during May 2017, while the rural subscription rate increased from 502.90 million to 507.92 million during the same period. The number of broadband subscribers increased from 284.23 million during April 2017 to 291.61 million during May 2017, witnessing a monthly growth rate of 2.60 per cent.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited added the maximum number of subscribers, 4.78 million during May 2017. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel added 2.09 million subscribers while Vodafone and Idea Cellular added 1.13 million and 0.19 million subscribers respectively.
