TRAI extends deadline for comments on 'Data speed under wireless broadband plans'

June 29, 2017

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline for submitting comments and counter-comments on the consultation paper on data speed under wireless broadband plans from June 29, 2017 and July 13, 2017 to July 20, 2017 and August 3, 2017, respectively.

Through the consultation paper, the regulator has sought suggestions on whether the tariff plans’ framework requires changes to encourage more transparency and comparison between different data plans and whether there is a need to revise the quality of service parameters to improve data speeds. The regulator has also sought stakeholders’ views on the products or technologies that can be used to measure actual end-user experience on mobile broadband networks and whether they should be measured on the node or device levels. Further, noting that observation by measurement tools could lead to privacy concerns, making the measuring point susceptible to malware attacks, TRAI has asked stakeholders whether any legal, security, privacy or data sensitivity issues can arise while collecting device level data, and if they can be addressed.
