Companies in mining and metal industry to embark on digital transformation, says an Accenture survey

May 12, 2017

According to a survey by Accenture, four out of five mining and metal firms globally (including those in India) are expected to increase their spending on digital technologies like cloud computing and data security over the next three years. These investments would help these firms in improving their operational efficiency and addressing issues such as rising capital as well as compliance costs, the survey said.

The survey covered approximately 200 mining and metals executives and functional leaders  from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China/Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Singapore, South Africa, the United States and United Kingdom. As per the survey, about 28 per cent of the firms participating in it were planning to undertake significant investments in digital technologies.

Further, about 46 per cent of these firms cited digital technology as the biggest contributor to innovations. Further, 81 per cent respondents said that their companies had implemented some form of public, private or hybrid cloud and another 17 per cent said their company was still exploring the use of the cloud technology.
