BSNL to install 3,000 more towers in Maoist-hit areas

May 08, 2017

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited may be tasked to set up 3,000 additional telecom towers in the Maoist-infested areas to improve communication among the security agencies operating in those areas.

Recently, the state-run operator had completed the task of setting up nearly 2,200 telecom towers in all the seven Maoist-hit states of Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The move comes after a recent strike in Sukma, Chattisgarh that left several CRPF men dead in an ambush laid by the left-wing insurgents. The government is likely to ask BSNL to take up rolling out of additional towers in these areas on an urgent basis.
