Mobile Subscribers Yearwise comparision

Telecom subscriber base in the country reaches 1.043 billion in January 2016, reports TRAI

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the telecom subscriber base in the country reached 1.043 billion in January 2016, an increase of around 0.66 per cent from December 2015. The wireless subscriber base increased by 0.7 per cent to reach 1.01 billion while the wireline subscriber base declined by 0.78 per cent to reach 25.32 million during the same period.

Further, as per TRAI, private operators held 91.45 per cent of the total wireless market share (in terms of subscriber base), while state-owned operators Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) held 8.55 per cent market share. However, in the wireline space, BSNL and MTNL held a share of 72.79 per cent.

Meanwhile, the broadband subscriber base increased from 136.53 million at end-December 2015 to 140.1 million at end-January 2016. Further, in January 2016, 5.62 million subscribers submitted requests for mobile number portability.
