Andhra Pradesh fibre net project to be made operational by August 2017

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced that the Andhra Pradesh Fibre Grid project will be made operational by August 2017. The project entails providing internet facility to every household in the state through optical fibre. As per the government, the project will involve laying down 22,500 km of fibre across the state with an investment of about Rs 3,330 million. So far 9,778 km of fibre has been laid in districts such as Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram.  

The fibre grid will be utilised by the state government to provide internet connectivity at a speed of 10 mbps to at Rs 149 per month to every household. The government has further announced that the goal of a digital Andhra Pradesh will be realised by 2018.
