BSNL to lay 2,747 km of OFC in Assam under the BharatNet project

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has stated that it will lay 2,747 km of optical fibre cable (OFC) in Assam under the BharatNet project. The OFC network would be deployed in 1,010 gram panchayats (GPs) in 91 blocks and 19 districts of the state.  As of now, BSNL has already laid 1,850 permanently lubricated (PLB) pipes and more than 1,570 km of OFC in around 200 GPs in Assam.

Further, in order to improve the network quality in the state, BSNL plans to use next generation network equipment in a phased manner at Dispur, Noonmati and Dharapur Exchanges in Guwahati and nearby areas.

The operator is also planning to deploy seven multi protocol label switching (MPLS) routers at headquarters of each secondary switching areas in the Assam Circle within a month.
